SCOOP: Rs. 20 crores spent on the GRAND Bhediya scene in Thamma; was shot under Amar Kaushik’s supervision

The grand Diwali release Thamma is a part of the much-loved Maddock Horror Comedy Universe and hence, it was expected that characters from the earlier films will make it in the Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer. Way back in July, Bollywood Hungama had revealed that Varun Dhawan appears in the film, reprising the role of Bhediya. We also stated that the actor shot for 6 days and the scene in question would be a visual spectacle. Bollywood Hungama has now stumbled upon some fascinating details.

A source told us, “The makers decided to go all out with the scene of Betaal vs Bhediya. Hence, a mind-boggling amount of Rs. 20 crores was spent just on that sequence. Producer Dinesh Vijan was clear – the fight scene should have top-class VFX that should stun the viewers. After all, the scene is very crucial for the future of the universe.”

The source further said, “Amar Kaushik, the founder and mentor of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, serves as the producer of Thamma. But for the crucial scene of Bhediya, he was present on the set to supervise. A lot was at stake; so, Amar decided to be present when the scene was being filmed. Thamma’s director, Aditya Sarpotdar, was informed about it in advance and he understood Amar’s point of view. He was more than happy to have Amar on the set and was also more than happy to take his valuable inputs.”

Thamma starred Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal.

EXCLUSIVE: Has Paresh Rawal signed Drishyam 3? Actor clarifies, “Not true. The makers did approach me…its script is VERY good…”

Drishyam (2015) was a box office success, and as the years passed, it developed a cult following. This resulted in a fabulous opening for Drishyam 2 (2022), shocking the trade and industry. As the film emerged as a blockbuster, all eyes are now on Drishyam 3. It's all set to release on October 2, 2026 and the film was in the news recently after it was reported that Paresh Rawal might be a part of the cast.

However, it turns out that the veteran actor has not signed Drishyam 3. Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to him recently and when asked if he has bagged a role in the thriller as speculated, he replied, “No, I have not. There’s no truth to these reports at all.”

Was he offered a role in Drishyam 3? Paresh Rawal said, “Yes, the makers did approach me. But I didn’t feel that the rule was suitable for me. Maza nahin aaya (on reading about my part).”

Paresh Rawal added, “But the script is very good. I was really impressed. But even in a compelling script, you need a role that you feel excited about. Warna maza nahin aayega.”

This writer then reminded him about his latest release, Thamma. His performance of a father who is suspicious that his son has developed “punching machine-type teeth” has been well received. Paresh Rawal smiled and said, “Yes, I heard it is doing well.” He also revealed that “I am in Ahmedabad,” indicating perhaps that he hasn't seen the film yet.

About Drishyam Drishyam is the story of a man trying to protect his family after his wife and elder daughter accidentally kill a young chap who was trying to molest them. The deceased molester is the son of a dreaded cop who goes all out to nab the protagonist, but fails to do so. The tussle between them continues in the sequel as well.

EXCLUSIVE: Shakti Shalini goes on floors in January 2026; Amar Kaushik explains how Aneet Padda came on board, “We saw Saiyaara and knew that she perfectly…”

Before the audience sat down to watch the grand Diwali release, Thamma, they were treated to a 60-second-long announcement promo for Shakti Shalini. The film earlier starred Kiara Advani and there were reports that Aneet Padda of Saiyaara (2025) fame has replaced the former. The announcement teaser confirmed the speculations and also revealed that the next film of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe will be out on December 24, 2026. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Amar Kaushik, the mentor of the universe and also the producer of Munjya (2024) and Thamma, opened up about this film.

Earlier, the plan was to bring 2 more films of Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, namely Bhediya 2 and Chamunda, in cinemas in 2026. When asked if the plan remains or will Shakti Shalini be the sole release of the universe next year, Amar Kaushik said, “There might be just one film (from the universe in 2026). We feel that there should not be an overdose and we should not give too many films in a short period. Hence, as of now, the plan is to only bring Shakti Shalini next year.”

The announcement promo didn’t provide any information on who would direct the film. Will he don the director’s hat or Aditya Sarpotdar, who also directed Munjya and Thamma? Amar replied, “We are still in discussion and haven’t decided yet.”

When asked how Aneet Padda came on board, he answered, “When we were writing the script, we realized that we needed a younger actor. Meanwhile, we saw her film Saiyaara and realized that she suits the part perfectly for that character. She heard the story and came on board.”

When would Shakti Shalini go on floors? Amar said, “The shooting will commence in January 2026.”

Horror film for Amar?

Amar Kaushik has tried his hand at a comedy film (Bala; 2019) and also at horror comedies. Would he like to try horror next? Amar Kaushik excitedly answered, “Yes, I really want to. It’s my desire to make a horror film in this universe. Lekin public manegi kya? After all, ours is a horror comedy universe. In fact, making horror can be easier as you know its tropes like I can set such a mood, I can place the camera in this way, etc. It’s doable and it would be interesting. In fact, I can visualize it right now as we speak. But since comedy is an important part of this universe and people would expect fun moments, then it won’t be possible in this universe.”

He added, “However, I can definitely make a horror film outside this universe. I would love to make a pure horror movie with just 1 character!”

Boman Irani pens heartfelt tribute to late actor Asrani: “His commitment to the camera will remain with me forever”

Veteran actor and filmmaker Govardhan Asrani, fondly known as Asrani, passed away in Mumbai on October 20 after a prolonged illness. He was 84. Remembered for his impeccable comic timing and a career spanning over five decades, Asrani’s passing has left the Indian film fraternity mourning the loss of a true legend.

Among the many who paid their respects was actor Boman Irani, who took to social media to share a heartfelt note about his recent experience of working with the late actor. Reflecting on their time together, Irani revealed that they had collaborated just ten days before Asrani’s passing.

In his post, Irani wrote, “Around ten days ago, I had the privilege of working with Asrani ji for the first time. For the shot, I was meant to be injured and on the floor. He, the doctor, had to rush in and help me. While he needed a little help in the dark walking around the crowded set, the magical word ‘action’ had another meaning for him.”

The actor went on to describe how Asrani, despite his frail health, transformed into a burst of energy once the cameras started rolling. “Like a live wire, he rushed into the room and instinctively landed on the floor on hands and knees, attending with urgency to the sprawled me. On ‘cut,’ he needed a little help off the floor. But his commitment to the whirring camera will remain with me forever.”

Irani concluded his note with a poignant remark about Asrani’s lifelong dedication to his craft: “Till the very end, there was nothing else in the world that he was meant to do. He will be in his onward place doing nothing else but responding to ‘Action’ and doing what made him and others happy.”

Lakshya, Tiger Shroff, and Janhvi Kapoor to star in Karan Johar’s upcoming action drama: Report

Over the past few days, curiosity has peaked among fans eager to know who pops up in this spooky-yet-hilarious world. In this article, we reveal all the special appearances that make Thamma even more thrilling. Warning: Spoilers ahead!

The first cameo that appears in the film is that of Elvis Karim Prabhakar, played by Sathyaraj. He also appeared in Munjya (2024). His appearance won't be a surprise as he was already shown in the trailer. This is followed by Jana aka JD aka Janardhan (Abhishek Banerjee).

The most exciting cameo is of Varun Dhawan aka Bhediya. In fact, his scene takes the cake and is one of the highlights of the film. Lastly, Nora Fatehi who appears in the song 'Dilbar Ki Aankhon Ka' is introduced as the same girl in Chanderi. This is a reference to her appearance in the song 'Kamariya' in Stree (2018). She just doesn't shake a leg; she also has a dialogue in the film. Finally, Sarkata makes an appearance too.

Past experiences The idea of having cameos in films of Maddock Horror Comedy Universe began with Bhediya (2022). Its end featured cameos by Rajkummar Rao (Vicky) and Aparshakti Khurana (Bittu). It also made it clear that JD (Abhishek Banerjee) is actually the same person who was Jana in Stree.

The sleeper hit Munjya (2024), starring Sharvari and Abhay Verma, ended with an appearance by Bhaskar aka Bhediya (Varun Dhawan). Bhediya once again appeared in a massy cameo in Stree 2 (2024). That’s not all. In Stree 2, Akshay Kumar also made his presence felt as the descendant of the ultimate villain, Sarkata.

BREAKING: Aneet Padda’s Shakti Shalini to release on December 24, 2026

Bollywood Hungama was among the first ones to confirm that Aneet Padda, who became a nationwide sensation with Saiyaara (2025), has replaced Kiara Advani in Shakti Shalini. On October 19, we also brought to you the news that Shakti Shalini’s announcement video is attached with Thamma, the grand Diwali release. And now, we bring to you another exciting update from the film. It has come to light that Shakti Shalini will release in cinemas on December 24, 2026.

Just like Thamma, Shakti Shalini also belongs to the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. The blockbuster franchise began with Stree (2018) followed by Bhediya (2022). Munjya (2024) came next and it was a sleeper super-hit. Stree 2 (2024) emerged as the highest Bollywood grosser of all time. Thamma is the fifth film of the universe.

When Shakti Shalini starred Kiara Advani, the plan was to release it on December 31, 2025. With the Aneet Padda-starrer having moved to 2026, it means that three films of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe will arrive next year – Shakti Shalini, Chamunda and Bhediya 2. Stree 3 will arrive in 2027. In 2028, the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe will end with a bang with three exciting movies, namely Maha Munjya, Pehla Mahayudh and Doosara Mahayudh.

BREAKING: 1.51-minute-long Cocktail 2 song promo attached with Thamma

The Diwali biggie Thamma is all set to release tomorrow and the excitement is growing for it as the release date nears. Bollywood Hungama informed readers yesterday, that is, Sunday, October 20, that the teaser of Ikkis and the announcement promo of Shakti Shalini will be shown with the horror comedy. Bollywood Hungama has learned that there’s one more exciting asset attached to Thamma – Cocktail 2.

A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “A song promo of Cocktail 2, titled ‘Jab Talak’, was passed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on October 16. Its run time is 111 seconds, that is, 1 minute and 51 seconds, and it has been passed with a U/A 16+ rating.”

The trade source further said, “The theatres have been informed of the promos to be shown with Thamma and one of them is that of Cocktail 2; the other two being Ikkis and Shakti Shalini. Cocktail 2’s release is many months away, but it’s a big, vibrant film, as evident from the on-set pictures from Sicily, Italy. Also, with audiences expected to arrive in hordes for Thamma in cinemas, it can be a great time to present its first look.”

Cocktail 2, like Thamma, is backed by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films. While the first part starred Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone and launched Diana Penty, the second part features Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna. Both parts have been directed by Homi Adajania. Interestingly, Rashmika also stars in Thamma. The other lead actors in the film are Ayushmann Khurrana, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal.

Thamma is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, who directed the other significant film of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe – Munjya (2024). Shakti Shalini also belongs to the same universe and hence, it is apt to have its promo with Thamma.

Ayan Mukerji steps back from Dhoom 4; shifts his focus on Brahmastra 2 with Ranbir Kapoor & Alia Bhatt

After the debacle of War 2, director Ayan Mukerji has decided to take a backseat as the director of Dhoom 4. Sources close to the development confirm that Ayan has backed off from Dhoom 4 and, in a closed-door conversation with Aditya Chopra, conveyed his reservation. "Ayan believes that films like War 2 and Dhoom 4 were never meant for him, and he wants to do something a lot wider with scope for romance, drama with spectacle vibes and storytelling," an insider told Bollywood Hungama.

The insider informed Bollywood Hungama, "Ayan was just executing what was written on paper by Shridhar Raghavan, and had little say on the script and screenplay. He does not want to be on another journey of just execution, as he is a passionate filmmaker who prefers to exclusively work on the written material and bring more to the screen than what's written."

The source also confirms that the decision to step back from Dhoom 4 has been taken after a series of conversations with Aditya Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor. "Both Chopra and Kapoor understood Ayan's point of view and have parted ways on the right note. Ayan is now working on Brahmastra 2 and will take the film on floors in 2026. The writing work is concluded, and some polishing is going on during his stay in the Himalayas."

Aditya Chopra is meanwhile exploring more direction options. "Insiders at YRF have also suggested that the boss direct the new Dhoom film himself, as Ranbir has already allotted his dates for the new Dhoom film." Rajesh Khanna-Dimple Kapadia’s granddaughter Naomika Saran to be launched opposite Vedang Raina

The third generation of the illustrious Khanna family is all set to enter the movie industry. Yesteryears’ superstar Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia’s granddaughter Naomika Saran will make her screen debut in film being produced by Dinesh Vijan of Maddock Films.

Naomika is the daughter of Rajesh and Dimple’s younger daughter Rinke Khanna who was once an aspiring actress in Filmistan. Rinke did films like Pyar Mein Kabhi Kabhi and Jis Desh Ganga Mein Rehta Hai. When she was removed by Ram Gopal Varma from his film Company and replaced by Manisha Koirala, Rinke quite the film industry, got married and migrated to the West.

EXCLUSIVE: CBFC reduces kissing scene in Thamma by 5 seconds; replaces ‘Azaadi doonga’ with ‘Aiyaashi karata hoon’

Three days are left for the release of the grand Diwali biggie, Thamma, and the excitement is gradually building up. The makers, Maddock Films, completed the censor process on time and in this article, Bollywood Hungama will exclusively focus on the cuts suffered by the horror comedy.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) asked for audio cuts in three places and one visual modification as well. The word 'Alexander' was replaced with ‘Sikandar’. In another dialogue, the word ‘Ashwathama’ was muted.

In the second half of the film, the words 'Azaadi doonga' were replaced with 'Aiyaashi karata hoon'. The Examining Committee also asked the makers to ‘reduce the slurping sound of drinking blood to minimum’. Finally, a kissing scene in the second half was reduced by 30%, that is, by 5 seconds.

The last modification may dampen the excitement of the moviegoers but on the positive side, this is the shortest intimacy cut asked by the CBFC in recent times. In Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, liplock visuals were reduced by 60%. In Saiyaara, the makers were instructed to delete and replace 10 seconds of ‘sensual, intimacy, body exposure visuals’. Lastly, in Superman, the CBFC axed 33 seconds of ‘sensual visual’ from Superman. It led to massive criticism as the studio had to make abrupt cuts to accommodate CBFC’s directive.

Coming back to Thamma, once the changes were made, the censor certificate was handed over to the makers on October 15. The film was passed with a U/A 16+ rating. The length of the movie, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 149.59 minutes. In other words, Thamma is 2 hours 29 minutes and 59 seconds long.

Thamma releases on Tuesday, October 21 and stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal. It is backed by blockbuster producer Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and directed by Aditya Sarpotdar of Munjya (2024) fame. It is a part of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe and hence, belongs to the same world as Stree, Bhediya and Munjya.

A controversy erupted ahead of the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election in Telangana after fake voter ID cards bearing the photos of actresses Tamannaah Bhatia, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Rakul Preet Singh were discovered at a single residential address. The authorities from the Election Commission have confirmed that they are investigating the matter to determine how these fraudulent entries were created.

Same Address, Multiple Fake IDs According to reports, all three fabricated voter ID cards listed the same address within the Jubilee Hills constituency, raising serious questions about the integrity of the electoral rolls. The Election Commission’s local office has taken note of the irregularities and stated that verification is underway to trace those responsible.

Political Stakes and Candidates The by-election for the Jubilee Hills Assembly seat is scheduled for November 11, with vote counting set for November 14. The seat fell vacant following the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath in June due to a heart attack. The ruling Congress party has fielded V. Naveen Yadav as its candidate, while Maganti Sunitha, the widow of the late MLA, represents the BRS (Bharath Rashtra Samithi). BJP has nominated Lankala Deepak Reddy to contest from the seat. BRS Alleges “Thousands of Fake Voters” The opposition BRS has accused the ruling Congress of orchestrating a large-scale voter registration fraud in the constituency. BRS Working President KT Rama Rao alleged that the Congress manipulated electoral rolls by creating thousands of fake entries. “In one house, they got 43 fake votes were registered. In total, they registered thousands of fake votes. We are doing an exercise on that and will counter it in whatever way necessary,” KTR said. Legal Challenge and Court’s Observation Following these allegations, the BRS moved the Telangana High Court, seeking action against the alleged irregularities. However, during a recent hearing, the High Court observed that since the State Election Commission is already revising electoral rolls, no additional directions were necessary at this stage.

Dinesh Vijan’s Thamma becomes the MOST EXPENSIVE film of Maddock’s Horror Comedy Universe; Rs. 145 crores bet on Ayushmann & Rashmika!

Dinesh Vijan has emerged as one of the most successful producers of the Indian Film Industry in the post-COVID world, tasting success with mid-budget films devoid of big stars. Diwali 2025 will see the release of Thamma, which is a follow-up to his Independence Day 2024 blockbuster - Stree 2. Reliable sources have confirmed that Thamma is the most expensive film of Maddock Horror Comedy Universe.

"Thamma is the most expensive and ambitious film of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. With VFX companies of international repute working on it, the final budget of Thamma is around Rs. 125 crores, excluding print and publicity, which is estimated to be in the bracket of Rs. 20 crores. The final landing cost of Thamma will fall in the vicinity of Rs. 145 crores," a source told Bollywood Hungama.

The source also informs that Thamma has surpassed Stree 2 to become the most expensive film of the universe. "Stree 2 was made on a budget of Rs. 125 crores including print and publicity. Thamma is almost Rs. 20 crores higher, and producer Dinesh Vijan is placing his bets on Rashmika and Ayushmann to bring in the audience. He truly believes in the magic of content, which has resulted in him investing such monies, and is now hoping for the lead actors to bring in the audience on opening day," the source told us further.

This isn't the first time that Dinesh Vijan is taking a risk of mounting a big film. "He made Chhaava with Vicky, which most thought of as a not-so-wise business decision. But the film delivered, and so did Vicky. He is now confident that the film and the lead actors will deliver again on Diwali, as he has already padded it with the tag of his most prestigious universe."

Thamma is set to release on 21st October, and the distributors have demanded 70 percent of the total showcasing at the India level.

Diwali usually brings family entertainers, but Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat takes a bold turn. The film has been certified ‘A’. With recent adult-rated hits like Animal (2023), Coolie (2025) etc., proving that an ‘A’ tag doesn’t stop box office success, this intense love story is ready to make its mark amid the festive fireworks.

Despite the ‘A’ rating, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) requested six modifications from the makers of the romantic saga. A 2-minute 12-second shot was asked to be modified. The details of the shot aren't specified in the cut list. A 1-second visual of Mantralaya was asked to be removed.

Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat also suffered audio cuts. The dialogue 'sleep with her' was asked to be removed. At two places, 'Raavan' was replaced with 'villain'. The CBFC's Examining Committee, in fact, asked the makers to remove all the dialogue belonging to the epic Ramayana. Lastly, 'maal' was replaced with 'ladki'.

Once these changes were made, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat was passed with an ‘A’ certificate on October 16. The length of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 140.17 minutes. In other words, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is 2 hours 20 minutes and 17 minutes long. Directed by Milap Zaveri, it stars Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa.

Interestingly, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is the first Diwali release in 22 long years to be A-rated. The last time this occurred was during Diwali 2003. Four films were released in the festival week that year – the period drama Pinjar, Govinda’s comic caper Raja Bhaiya, Tanishaa Mukherji’s horror flick Sssshhh and Vikram Bhatt’s thriller Inteha. The last two were passed with ‘A’ rating by the CBFC.

A year prior, in 2002, Annarth, starring Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Vinod Kambli and others, was given an adults-only rating. In 2001, Kamal Haasan’s ambitious venture Aalavandhan, which was released in Hindi as Abhay, was also meant only for adults. In 1999, the A-rated Shool, starring Manoj Bajpayee and Raveena Tandon with a special appearance by Shilpa Shetty, was a Diwali release and it clashed with Hum Saath Saath Hain.

Salman Khan shoots patriotic song with 60 dancers for Battle of Galwan: Report

Making headlines is nothing new for Salman Khan. The superstar, who is currently in the news for his ongoing spat with Dabangg director Abhinav Kashyap, has also kept fans curious about updates on his much-awaited film Battle of Galwan. And now, there’s some exciting buzz for his fans.

According to a recent report by Mid-Day, Salman is currently filming a crucial patriotic song sequence in Mumbai with over 60 background dancers. The number, choreographed by Mudassar Khan, is said to be an emotionally charged tribute to the spirit of Indian soldiers.

An industry insider told the publication, “It’s not a celebratory number. The mood is patriotic, and the song reflects the pride, sacrifice, and pain of the soldiers. Salman and the director were clear that it should feel organic to the story.”

The source further added that Mudassar Khan is focusing more on evoking the soldiers’ emotions than on choreography-heavy moves. “Filming will continue through the week,” the insider revealed.

Mudassar and Salman have previously collaborated on blockbuster tracks from Dabangg (2010) and Ready (2011), both of which became chart-toppers. Given their history, expectations are naturally high for this emotionally intense sequence.

While the makers have yet to confirm or deny these reports, one confirmed update about Battle of Galwan is that Arijit Singh will lend his voice to one of the songs in the film. It’s highly likely that the patriotic number currently being shot features Arijit’s vocals.

For the uninitiated, Salman recently addressed his decade-long feud with Arijit Singh during a Bigg Boss 19 episode. Calling the misunderstanding “a thing of the past,” the actor publicly acknowledged that Arijit is his “very good friend,” confirming their long-awaited collaboration on Battle of Galwan.

EXCLUSIVE: Thamma vs Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat screen-sharing battle begins; makers of Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer demand ALL shows in single and two-screen cinemas

The much-anticipated Diwali releases, Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, are just days away, and the excitement across the trade, industry, and audiences is palpable. As with every major festive clash, the battle for screens has intensified. Bollywood Hungama has learned that the first round of this tussle between the distributors of both films has already begun.

A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, is being distributed by PVR Inox Pictures. Its distributor-partner in the Mumbai circuit, August Entertainment, has sent a mail to cinemas in the territory informing them about their screen-sharing requirements. They have asked for all shows in single-screen cinemas and two screen theatres. They have also asked for 12 shows in three-screen multiplexes; it means 100% showcasing in two of the three screens and a show or two in the third screen as well.”

The mail from August Entertainment further states that they want 15 shows of Thamma in four-screen theatres, 18 shows in five-screen cinemas, 21 shows in six-screen multiplexes, 24 shows in seven-screen multiplexes, 27 shows in eight-screen multiplexes, 30 shows in nine-screen plexes and 33 shows in 10-screen theatres.

It’s important to note that this move has come directly from August Entertainment, which is handling the release of Thamma in the Mumbai circuit. How distributors in other regions respond, and whether they follow suit with similar demands, remains to be seen.

Nevertheless, the exhibitors have expressed reservations. An exhibitor told us, “We would definitely want to show Thamma as it looks exciting. But single-screen cinemas should also be given a chance to play Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat. In fact, it’s the single-screen theatres where the Harshvardhan Rane-film can score big time. And let’s not forget that the Marathi film Premachi Goshta 2 and the Gujarati film Chaniya Toli are also up for release this Diwali. Some cinemas would want to accommodate it as well. Hence, we hope a solution can be found.”

Another exhibitor remarked, “The mail from August Entertainment mentions that the rule exists only for non-PVR, non-Inox and non-Cinepolis cinemas. We feel it’s not fair and it should be uniform for all cinemas.”

Meanwhile, a trade expert commented, “Just a few weeks ago, we saw what happened during the Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 vs Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari clash. At that time, the makers of the former asked for 100% shows in single-screen, two-screen and three-screen cinemas. Even in theatres with four screens and more, they asked for nearly 80-90% of showcasing. At least, the distributors are reasonable in the case of Thamma.”

Mahabharat fame Pankaj Dheer passes away after battle with cancer

Veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, renowned for his iconic portrayal of Karna in BR Chopra’s epic television series Mahabharat, passed away on October 15, 2025, after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 68 years old. His team released a heartfelt statement announcing his demise:

"With profound grief and deep sorrow, we inform you of the passing of our Trust’s erstwhile Chairman and CINTAA's former Hon. General Secretary, Shri Pankaj Dheer ji, on 15th October 2025. The cremation will be held today at 4:30 pm, next to Pawan Hans, Vile Parle (W), Mumbai."

Pankaj Dheer’s portrayal of Karna, one of the most complex and tragic characters of the Mahabharata, remains etched in the hearts of millions. In a previous interview with Lehren, Dheer reflected on the significance of the role and the immense love it garnered over the decades.

He shared: "The Mahabharata is a beautifully written granth addressing all kinds of human relationships and moral lessons. When we made the show, we didn't have many references for Karna’s character. I had to use my own intellect and creativity to shape how Karna would walk, talk, and carry himself. I chose to play Karna with great restraint to generate sympathy, balancing the dramatic performances around me."

Dheer also expressed his gratitude for the enduring connection fans had with his Karna, recalling that his image as Karna even appeared in school history books and that he is worshipped in temples dedicated to Karna in places like Karnal and Bastar. He said, "People have loved me from the bottom of their hearts. This acceptance makes it hard for others to play the role. I have been offered Karna's role in other adaptations, but I refused. To me, playing Karna was a once-in-a-lifetime fate."

Hrithik Roshan moves Delhi High Court to protect his personality rights amid rising AI misuse

Hrithik Roshan has moved the Delhi High Court by filing a petition seeking safeguards for his name, image, likeness and other aspects of his persona against unauthorised commercial use and misuse. This comes days after veteran playback singer Kumar Sanu sought legal protection for his personality rights, and the matter is expected to be heard on Wednesday, according to a report by Bar and Bench.

With the increasing use of generative AI and deepfake technologies, several Indian celebrities have been turning to the courts to protect their digital and personal identities. Hrithik joins a growing list of public figures — including Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Kumar Sanu, and even the late Ratan Tata — who have sought injunctions to prevent unauthorised exploitation of their name or likeness, often through AI-generated content.

Personality rights, also known as publicity rights, give individuals legal control over how their name, image, voice, and other identifiable traits are used commercially. While India does not yet have a dedicated law governing these rights, courts have upheld them under the right to privacy guaranteed by Article 21 of the Constitution and through existing principles of common law.

Hrithik Roshan, who was last seen in War 2 which released on August 14, has been in the spotlight not only for his films but also for his new venture as a producer. The actor recently kicked off his debut production Storm in collaboration with Amazon Prime Video under his banner HRX Films. Known for his carefully curated projects and strong public image, Hrithik’s move to secure his personality rights reflects a growing concern among stars about their identity being misused in the age of AI-generated videos, fake endorsements and manipulated content.

The Delhi High Court on Monday heard explosive claims that the will of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, scion of the Sona BLW automotive group, was digitally fabricated to divert his Rs30,000-crore estate entirely to his third wife, Priya Kapur. What began as a private inheritance dispute has erupted into a courtroom thriller, with lawyers for Kapur’s children from his second marriage — Samaira and Kiaan Kapur, whose mother is Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor — alleging a deliberate digital manipulation of files, secret WhatsApp groups, and a forged signature trail. The outcome could redefine not just the balance of one family’s fortune but the boundaries of digital evidence in India’s inheritance law.

“A will born on another man’s computer” Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing the two children, told the bench that the contested will “was not the product of the deceased’s hand or mind” but a “manufactured document” created and edited on another man’s computer. According to Jethmalani, metadata shows that the will originated on the device of one Nitin Sharma, a person with no formal connection to Sunjay Kapur. “Who prepared this will?” he asked. “The file was created and altered on Sharma’s system on March 17, 2025 — the very day Sunjay was in Goa with his son Kiaan. It defies logic that he would rewrite his will on holiday while disinheriting his own children.”

The counsel added that the Word file was converted into a PDF on March 24 at 10:06 a.m., hours before a WhatsApp group named Family Office IC was formed to circulate it among a select circle that included Sharma, Priya Kapur, and Dinesh Agarwal, a director of Aureus Investment Pvt Ltd, part of the Sona BLW promoter group.

“Immediately after the document was shared,” Jethmalani said, “Priya Kapur responded, ‘Okay, thank you!’ — with no surprise or hesitation. It reads like an acknowledgment of a task completed, with no endorsement from the deceased.” Digital footprints and missing links Jethmalani argued that the electronic evidence showed multiple, unidentified edits before and after Kapur’s death, pointing to “a secretive and coordinated effort.” The will, he said, surfaced only on the 13th day after the cremation of the deceased. “There is no explanation for where this document was stored or who had possession of it,” he said. “The entire chain of custody is broken.” Contradictions and omissions The will, Jethmalani told the court, contains glaring internal contradictions — listing three bank accounts in one section and six in another, while omitting key properties including Kapur’s New York apartment, a 2010 family trust, and holdings in jewellery, artwork, and precious metals. “These are not clerical errors,” he said. “A Harvard-educated industrialist of Sunjay Kapur’s precision could not have drafted a document this casual.”

Even more striking, he said, are the incorrect addresses of Samaira and Kiaan and the five inconsistent spellings of his youngest son Azarias’ name. “A meticulous and affectionate father would never commit such mistakes,” he said. “A will standing on air” Jethmalani also drew attention to the absence of a schedule of assets, a mandatory annexure detailing the testator’s holdings. The bench itself described the omission as “a serious procedural lapse.”

“Without it,” Jethmalani said, “this will stands on air. It lists no inventory of what the deceased owned, and even the named executor appears unaware of the estate’s scale.” A matter of character and credibility To reinforce his case, Jethmalani portrayed Sunjay Kapur as “a devoted father and a perfectionist in both business and life,” citing his education at the University of Buckingham and Harvard Business School. “He never missed Kiaan’s birthdays,” he said. “The idea that such a man would exclude his children is beyond belief.” Concluding his arguments, Jethmalani declared: “This will should be cast into the dustbin of history. It bears no mark of the deceased’s hand or heart.” Court reaction and adjournment The High Court said the evidence raised “substantial questions” about the will’s origin and internal coherence. The case was adjourned to Tuesday, October 14, for further examination of the digital trail and the physical document’s custody.

Priya Kapur’s counsel maintains that “unimpeachable electronic evidence” supports the will’s authenticity. But for Samaira and Kiaan, the fight has become a broader test of truth — pitting memory against metadata in one of India’s most closely watched inheritance battles.

Pahadpangira is described as a dark fantasy rooted in myth and folklore, tackling themes of feminism within the historical context of the Sati practice. It is speculated that Barve initially conceptualized Pahadpangira as part of the Tumbbad universe but later reimagined it as a standalone feature after parting ways with producer Sohum Shah. Meanwhile, Ektaa R Kapoor has been associated with the project as producer.

On the other hand, Shraddha Kapoor recently made headlines for announcing the animated theatrical film Chhoti Stree at the trailer launch event for Thamma. Sharing her excitement, Kapoor said, “Guys, Maddock Horror Comedy Universe is coming out with Chhoti Stree as an animated film! It’ll be released in theatres. It’ll be a dhamaal film for kids, families, basically, for everyone.” She further expressed, “It’s a really exciting time for India. It really feels amazing to be a part of this universe”.

Siddhant Chaturvedi’s Netflix film Ramree, backed by Ajay Devgn, shelved due to budget constraints: Report

After earning acclaim for his performance in Dhadak 2, Siddhant Chaturvedi seemed set to continue his momentum with Ramree, a two-hero OTT project backed by Ajay Devgn. However, the ambitious period drama has now reportedly been shelved before going on floors.

According to a report by Mid-Day, Ramree was conceived as a large-scale film set in 1945. The project, which had been under development for over a year, aimed to blend historical events with cinematic storytelling. However, given its elaborate setting and production requirements, the film’s mounting budget became a major hurdle.

A source close to the development told the publication, “For an OTT film, this would have set a benchmark in scale and imagination, but budget constraints caught up with it. Even though the platform heads were excited about the story, there was too much at stake financially. So, they decided not to move forward with it.”

Another insider offered a different perspective, suggesting that Ramree never reached the official greenlight stage. “A project is considered greenlit only when it goes on the floor. Ramree was an idea in development that did not move forward — a natural part of the creative process where multiple concepts are explored. While some take shape, some don’t,” the source explained.

The shelving of Ramree comes at a time when Siddhant Chaturvedi has been receiving praise for his recent performance in Dhadak 2, which released a couple of months ago. The film, co-starring Triptii Dimri, tells the story of Neelesh, a law student from a marginalized background, and Vidhi, an upper-caste girl. Through their relationship, Dhadak 2 explores the harsh realities of caste discrimination and societal prejudice, earning the actor widespread appreciation for his nuanced portrayal.

Bollywood's Diwali releases, Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, to face TOUGH fight from regional films; exhibitors gear up for screen sharing issues

A week is left for the arrival of the horror comedy Thamma and the intense romantic saga Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat in cinemas on the occasion of Diwali. This is the time when regional films typically refrain from releasing their films. But this year is going to be an exception. Both the Hindi Diwali releases will face competition from Marathi, Gujarati and Punjabi films.

Premachi Goshta 2, the sequel to the much-loved 2013 Marathi film Premachi Goshta, starring Atul Kulkarni and Sagarika Ghatge, will release in cinemas on October 21. The second part features Swapnil Joshi, Lalit Prabhakar, Rucha Vaidya and Ridhima Pandit. The trailer has been well-received due to its humorous moments and a novel twist in the story. It will be released by PVR Inox Pictures.

Interestingly, there was one more film, Punha Shivajiraje Bhosale, directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, which was all set to hit screens on the Festival of Lights. However, the mass-appealing film has now been shifted to October 31.

Gujarati cinema will present Chaniya Toli. It is backed by Anand Pandit Motion Pictures and stars Yash Soni, Ragi Jani, Nikita Sharma, Netri Trivedi, Heena Jaikishan, Sohni Bhatt and others with Janki Bodiwala of Shaitaan (2024) fame in a special appearance. The film is about a group of village women robbing a bank, leading to madness and chaos. The trailer of the ‘Gujarati Money Heist’ has got a huge response and exhibitors in Gujarat expect the film to surprise.

Finally, the Punjabi film Godday Godday Chaa 2, backed by Zee Studios, will also release on Diwali. It is the second part of Godday Godday Chaa (2023) and stars Ammy Virk, Tania, Gurjazz, Gitaj Bindrakhia, Nikeet Dhillon and others. Both parts of this series are directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, who recently helmed Son Of Sardaar 2.

Trade circles and exhibitors foresee an intense battle for screen space this Diwali. A trade expert observed, “Screen clashes are common when two major Hindi films release together. We just saw that happen with Kantara and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari last week. This festive season, a similar tussle is expected, with Thamma and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat vying for prime slots. What makes matters trickier is the strong regional lineup; Marathi, Gujarati and Punjabi films are arriving with big backers and built-in audiences. Their presence will amplify the competition in their respective territories, and exhibitors may have to strike a delicate balance while allocating shows.”

A single-screen exhibitor from Maharashtra noted, “Marathi films have been released on Diwali in the past. Mumbai Pune Mumbai 2, which is directed by Premachi Goshta 2 director Satish Rajawade, came on Diwali 2015 along with Katyar Kaljat Ghusali, despite the biggie Prem Ratan Dhan Payo being scheduled for a release on the same day. Yet, everything was managed well. This time, too, I don’t see it as a problem, though I don’t deny that things have changed a lot in terms of screen-sharing tactics in these last 10 years.”

Salman Khan takes sarcastic dig at AR Murugadoss for saying he arrived at 8 PM on Sikandar sets: “Madharaasi is a bigger blockbuster”

Actor Salman Khan, who’s currently hosting Bigg Boss 19, didn’t hold back as he addressed director AR Murugadoss’s recent comments accusing him of reporting late to the sets of their film Sikandar. The actor used the popular reality show’s Weekend Ka Vaar episode to respond with his trademark wit and characteristic candour.

The Background: Murugadoss's Allegation Earlier, Sikandar director AR Murugadoss had told Valaipechu Voice that working with a major Bollywood star posed challenges. He claimed Salman would “arrive only by 8 PM,” forcing the crew to shoot even day scenes at night. Murugadoss described the schedule as chaotic, saying it affected child actors who had to film late into the night. Despite acknowledging his own creative shortcomings, the director hinted that the erratic timing contributed to the film’s underperformance. Salman’s Retort on Bigg Boss 19 Addressing the issue head-on during Bigg Boss 19, Salman responded to a question from comedian Ravi Gupta about films he regrets doing. After naming some older projects like Suryavanshi and Nishchay, the Tiger 3 actor clarified he had no regrets about recent films — including Sikandar.

He then took a playful yet pointed jab at Murugadoss, saying, “Main set pe raat ke 9 baje pahuchta tha, meri pasaliyan tooti thi (I used to reach the set at 9 PM, but my ribs were fractured).” In a sarcastic tone, Salman added, “Hamare director sahab bolte the aisa, lekin unki picture jo abhi release hui hai, uske actor to 6 baje pahuchte the” — a clear dig at Murugadoss’s latest Tamil release Madharaasi, which also struggled to impress audiences.

Salman further remarked that both producer Sajid Nadiadwala and Murugadoss distanced themselves from Sikandar after its box-office failure. “Pehle Sajid kalti, phir Murugadoss South sidha,” he quipped, hinting that the team moved on quickly after the film’s underwhelming performance.

Continuing his banter, the actor cheekily praised Madharaasi as a “bigger blockbuster than Sikandar,” accompanied by a knowing smile — a statement that drew laughter from the Bigg Boss audience.

Guneet Monga reveals Karan Johar gave The Lunchbox its GAME-CHANGING headline; says “He spent Rs. 6.50 cr on P&A for our Rs. 10 cr indie film…helped us get 500 screens”

Guneet Monga had a wonderful conversation with Karan Johar about the production aspects, taking Indian films to a global level and a lot more. One of her biggest breakthrough films was The Lunchbox (2013), starring the late Irrfan Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Nimrat Kaur. Guneet explained how she raised money for the film and how Karan Johar came on board.

Guneet Monga said, “A lot of credit for The Lunchbox working in India goes to Dharma Productions for their genuine marketing. When it was being made, I was told, ‘Isko kaun dekhega?’. Earlier, it was a Rs. 10 crore budget film. Raising such an amount was difficult in India. When we raised Rs. 5.50 crores in France and Germany, the project became commercially viable. I was able to recover the balance Rs. 4.50 crores through MG within 48 hours of the Cannes premiere! India’s rights were yet to be sold, but its collections were going to be a bonus.”

She revealed, “I reached out to Karan. He was also in Cannes for the premiere of Bombay Talkies (2013). I saw him having a meal. I introduced myself; this was my first meeting with him. I told him, ‘You are the master of love stories and I feel I have made a beautiful love story. It’s broken out here in Cannes. We have sold the rights of the world. Would you please watch it?’. That’s how our friendship began. He gave me his number and asked me to show him the film in India.”

Guneet continued, “Once I returned to India, his film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) had been released. A week later, he saw the film and loved it. He walked out and gave us the film’s tagline – Can you fall in love with somebody you have never met? Then he called me to his office and asked me, ‘What do you need?’. I said, ‘A big release. We have done 100 screen releases and we can do that. I want a 500 screen plus release’.”

Guneet Monga further said, “He then called up UTV Motion Pictures. He even put in Rs. 6.50 crores of P&A. That was huge money for a film like this. It was still a film with no songs, had dialogues in English etc. That question of ‘Kaun aayega dekhne’ was valid even then. However, I feel we judge our audiences a lot.”

At another point in the interview, Guneet also explained how she raised money from France, “I realized that there was a treaty between India and France, which was signed way back in 1985. I was the first one to use the treaty for co-production in 2011-12. This is how I raised 50% of the budget from France (smiles).”
